The only thing I love about these photos is the striped H&M sweater for under $25 haha! I just can’t handle winter this year and have tried to line up as many work and personal trips as possible to keep me out of the snow. I love the mock neck on this sweater which makes it perfect for layering with blouses but also keeps you ultra cozy on those -20 mornings walking to work!

I scored this coat on major sale right before boxing day after months of eyeing it online. I refused to pay full price for it and knew it would be marked down just in time for the chilly weather. At first, I was debating between it and this jacket, but opted for this one because the colours felt easier to pair with all the neutrals in my closet. I’ve loved throwing on a bright pink or emerald green scarf for contrast but also appreciate how classy this coat can be when paired with simple basics like a white sweater dress.

The Art of Winter Dressing

Ask any Canadian gal about the art of winter dressing and you’re sure to get an earful. The age old debate of trying to look chic while keeping warm often requires trading one for the other. It’s rare to find the perfect winter jacket that can keep you cozy in minus temps without looking like the Michelin man. An even hotter topic? What boots do you wear in the dead of winter that not only complement your outfit, but can also keep your toes from freezing in up to minus twenty degree temperatures. I’m here to tell you, we can settle the debate on the shoe topic, once and for all.

Cougar Boots isn’t a brand that’s new for me (I LOVE their Kensington Chelsea Boot for commuting), but I had never had the opportunity to try their Fall/Winter line in a true Canadian winter. I’ll be honest, I’m quite picky when it comes to boots. The laces need to sit just right, it’s got to be the right shade in the event it gets wet or dirty, the soles need to have some grit for the slush and the shape can’t be too bulky. Enter the Vanetta Suede Boot! Styled here in Mushroom, this pair has quickly become my go-to style for the season. Not only do I love the colour, but the faux-fur detail has been getting me compliments all week. I also appreciate the height of the boot because let’s be honest – when you’re dealing with snowfall that hit over one foot, an ankle length boot just isn’t going to cut it. 

And yes, they are warm! Saturday’s temperatures hit a record minus fifteen degrees with the wind chill and even with a regular pair of socks, my toes were toasty throughout the day as we ran errands around town. I’ve paired them with faux leather leggings as seen here and my skinny jeans. Since the height of the boot is so tall, I love that it creates a streamlined look with my favourite pair of jeans, eliminating any bulky looks.

I find I’m all about the budget finds this time of year. I’m not exactly thrilled to be adding more winter items to my wardrobe but with no vacations planned anytime soon and spring feeling like it’s eons away, when I need a quick shopping fix, budget items are my go-to. As mentioned, warmer weather isn’t exactly around the corner but I try to keep an eye on spring/summer 2019 trends when starting to shop so I can incorporate my purchases now into outfits I’ll be wearing up to August and September. 
Some of my favourite items as of late are anything snakeskin (and loving the coloured variation of this), bold and bright striped pieces, collared polos, rafia textured items and satin blouses. The items in the round up have me heart eyed and the best part? They’re all under $100!

A favourite trend from 2017, I am still a major fan of the bell sleeve trend. Whether it’s donned in black, white, pink or any colour or patten for that matter – it’s such a chic trend that really dresses up an otherwise fitted silhouette. I love pairing this shape of dress with a fun pair of earrings so as not to take away from oomph of the dress.

Whether it’s an upcoming gathering, family event, wedding or special occasion, I love visiting my local Saks OFF 5TH for fun finds like this dress. From ball gown that sweep to the floor to disco mini’s – there were so many styles to choose from and brands you know and love like Marchesa, Kate Spade, Calvin Klein and more. While you’re there, be sure to take a waltz through the shoe department. I haven’t left the store in the past 3 visits without a pair of shoes from Sam Edelman! (They always seem to have the Felicia flat in stock which is my go!).
